Spay the Strays is an all-volunteer 501c3 non-profit organization and we ALWAYS need more help.  You can help reduce cat overpopulation and make a difference in the lives of stray and feral cats in our community by volunteering.

Volunteers Needed:

1.  We are in desperate need of a volunteer to research grant opportunities and write grants for us to help us save more cats.

2.  We manage colonies of stray and feral cats in the Osceola County area on a daily basis. We feed the colonies daily, get medical treatment for cats who appear to be sick or injured and monitor the colonies for any newcomers who are then spayed/neutered.  We need volunteer caregivers to help manage one or more colonies and make sure they get fed every day.

3.  We need foster homes!  Spay the Stays and our foster network are at full capacity.  We need more foster homes in order to take new cats into our adoption program (especially with kitten season underway).  We do not have a shelter.  We solely rely on a network of foster homes to take in cats until they find their permanent, furrrever homes.  The more foster homes we have, the more stray cats and kittens we can help save from life on the streets.  We cover the cost of veterinary care for all cats in our foster home program.

4.  We also need volunteers to help with our kitties in our pet store locations.  Volunteers come throughout the week to clean the cat habitats, clean and replace food/water/litter and love on the kitties so they can be adopted!  We appreciate any pics you can take of them too that we can share online to helpt them get adopted!

5.  Volunteers can help with individual fundraising for the kitties as well.  Coordinate with your local school or library to do bake sales, start your own cat food and litter drives, ask your employer for a jeans day at work, whatever you can think of.

Fosters Needed:

We ALWAYS need fosters.  Fosters take kitties into their home and allow them to live there until they are adopted.  Fosters need to have a separate room to keep the fosters separate while they adjust to their new surroundings.  (See our Introducing Cats tab on the left)  Fosters need to bring the cats and drop them off for our Weekly Adoption Events at our pet store locations (events on hold due to Covid-19 at this time).  They also need to be able to leave them at the pet store location habitats periodically as we rotate them regularly to showcase them.  Fosters will also need to be able to bring the cats to our vet for regular check ups, which are coordinated by our director, Anita.  The rescue provides the vet care, the foster provides a home, food, litter, water, toys, enrichment, love, socialization, etc.

Fosters also need to send pictures and regularly report how the cats are doing and any personality traits we need to know so we can best match them with potential adopters.  Please send any pics and cat personality info to Marketing.SpayTheStrays@Aol.Com.

We have short term and long term fosters, so please let us know what your goals are so we can properly match you.  We also offer foster to adopt options for those who want to "test" the waters before fully committing.
