Welcome to Spay the Strays, a Central Florida Cat Rescue

Leela 1 Mr M Venus Sanders 1

We are a small, all-volunteer, 501c3 non-profit cat rescue (no dogs) in Central Florida.  We adopt out the cats we rescue to loving homes.

We do NOT have a clinic or shelter so if you’re looking to drop off a cat or get it fixed, we are NOT what you are looking for.  (scroll to bottom for info on those topics)  We do not assist with emotional support animals or speak spanish (no hablo espanol).

Volunteers take in stray cats they find in their local communities and are nursed back to health, socialized and prepared for adoption.  (We always take back confirmed cats originally adopted from us, upon confirmation it was our cat originally.  We are FULL and are not accepting ANY other surrenders at this time as we are a small group and are maxxed out.)  This allows us to help the over-population problem that plagues our counties.

Please spay/neuter your pets to help curb this issue.  We do not receive ANY government funding and appreciate all donations made via the yellow PayPal donate button on the middle top of this page.

Adopt A Cat

How to Adopt:

You can view our Adoptable Cats under the Animals Tab on the left side of this website.  You can also see our available pets on PetFinder.Com, Chewy.com or AdoptAPet.Com.

From there, you can TEXT/call Anita at 407-460-2305 until your reach her for the phone interview (some fosters require an application prior to be sure to check each cat's profile.  If you fill out an adoption application, be sure to enter the cat(s) you are interested in or what type of purrrsonality you are looking for.  An adoption specialist will review the information and connect you with someone for a phone interview.)  (Be sure to CHECK YOUR EMAIL/SPAM as this is our primary mode of communication).  If approved, we'll schedule a meeting and find your purrrfect match.

Home visits are required as part of our process (NO EXCEPTIONS) as well and will be coordinated prior to the new kitty going to its forever home.

Adoption fees start at $200.  If it's a specialty breed like a Persian, Ragdoll or Bengal, the fee will be higher.  We always have BOGO aka 2 for the price of 1 as it’s always great for kitties to have a buddy to go with them.  Adopted cats are spayed/neutered, microchipped, treated for parasites/fleas, receive age appropriate vaccines and are combo tested for FIV and FeLv (feline leukemia).  We adopt kittens out at age 3-5 mos as our vet won't fix & give rabies until they are at least 3.5 lbs.  (Kittens will need additional booster shots by your vet, at your expense.)

We match seniors (cats 7+ yrs) with seniors!

Please read the Bringing Home Your New Cat info sheet we email you.  Every cat is different and needs time and patience and your help to adapt to new surroundings.

Seeing Cats in Purrrrson:

We usually showcase cats at our 2 pet store locations throughout the week.  Check store hours for availability.

We hold weekly adoption events on Saturdays from 12-4 pm at the Loop Petco, Kissimmee and Saturdays at Kissimmee PetSmart 12-4 pm (E. Irlo Bronson).  We try to bring a variety of cats & kittens for potential adopters to meet.  An interview and home visit are still required prior to the adoption being completed.

We may be doing occasional adoption events at the Lee Vista Petco #2519 at 6751 Eagle Watch Drive, Orlando, 32822.

Be sure to check the Events section of our Facebook page for adoption event details and to confirm we'll be there on that particular day.  (https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100064451419426&sk=events)

Surrendering Fix Behavior

Surrendering a pet?

Need to surrender a pet?  We are currently FULL at this time but we ALWAYS take back confirmed pets originally adopted from Spay The Strays, per the contract.  Please really evaluate why you are returning and Google search possible solutions and discuss options with your vet.  Many issues have simple solutions that just take some time and patience to correct; research and talk to your vet to make sure there are no underlying health issues and see what can be done to fix any behavior issues.  The tabs on the left address many of the issues/concerns people have.

If you really must surrender, you will need approval from Anita first.  You can call/text her any time between 10 am and 6 pm EST, daily at 407-460-2305 (texts go through if mailbox is full).  You can also email us at SpayTheStrays@aol.com to relay a message to Anita.

Once you get the approval from Anita, please be sure to send us your vet records or authorize your vet to send any records to:  Marketing.SpayTheStrays@Aol.com and fill out the Surrender Form which you can copy and paste to your browser:  https://spaythestrays.rescuegroups.org/forms/form?formid=6099

Lost Your Pet?

Use Petco's FREE Petco Love Lost database which uses facial recognition to help find your pet or if you found a pet, it helps you find the owner so more lost pets can be reunited with their families!
